News

We have some more “good news” to share.

On Wednesday, the Butler County Commissioners awarded Penn Township a Butler County PA Vehicle Registration Local Use $5.00 Tire Fee Grant in the amount of $50,000 for the new traffic light at Route 8 and Airport Road.  This grant is in addition to the Pennsylvania Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLR) grant not to exceed $446,706.  This represents 79.6% of the total cost.  Penn Township’s “Local Share” is 20.4% of the cost and is paid from Penn Township’s PA Act 13 (oil and gas revenue) and the Traffic Impact Fee Infrastructure Funds.

The Butler County Commissioners also awarded Penn Township a Butler County Parks and Recreation Grant in the amount of $7,500 with a “Local Match” of $2,500 for stormwater piping materials to be used in the Harcrest Park Phase II development.   This is in addition to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant of $300,000 with a “Local Match” of $300,000 paid from Penn Township’s PA Act 13 (oil and gas revenue) and the Traffic Impact Fee Infrastructure Funds.

We greatly appreciate the Butler County Commissioners continued support for these important infrastructure projects.

RE: Penn Township Dodds Road Realignment and Streambank Stabilization Project
Good morning, Neighbors,

Penn Township has secured a PA Municipal Infrastructure Project Grant and will use Penn Township
infrastructure funds to complete the referenced project. This project is part of the Southwest
Butler County Stormwater Management Committee’s effort, with nine other municipalities, to improve
aquatic life and reduce flooding and erosion along Thorn Creek and Connoquenessing Creek.

A portion of Dodds Road will be raised above the Thorn Creek flood elevation and slightly
realigned. New Central Electric power poles and wiring, and communications wiring will be
installed. Approximately four hundred thirty lineal feet of Thorn Creek will be rehabilitated for
aquatic life and reduced erosion.
This project will begin on May 20, 2024, and Dodds Road will be closed between the Kevin Wetzel
property, at 611 Dodds Road, lower driveway through the project completion in late July 2024.

We trust this short-term inconvenience will be a great improvement on Dodds Road and in Thorn
Creek. Please contact me if you have any questions. My cell phone number is 724-487-3927.
Sincerely,

Samuel M. Ward Chairman, Penn Township Board of Supervisors
